Please be aware of some information that has been forwarded for circulation by one of the forces detective constables who also works as a liaison officer with the local deaf community within the force.
He has reported that he has been involved with an enquiry where a deaf lady has been contacted via MSN and told that she had won £35000 on a lottery. She was told she would have to send money via Western Union as an 'admin' fee. Since this time, our liaison officer has received further emails from around the country reporting similar things. It appears that the deaf community may be being specifically targeted by unknown persons via Facebook and MSN and in some cases, they have actually hacked into friend's account to appear more credible.
Please could I ask that you circulate this amongst members, friends and family and ask that this be passed on to anyone who might be particularly vulnerable to being approached in this manner.
