Home security
Over recent months I have sent various alerts out in relation to being vigilant with regards to household security, particularly in reference to ensuring doors and windows are secure both when your property is occupied and when you are out. At a recent area meeting the local analyst highlighted that in the last couple of weeks there has been an increase in thefts from sheds. These have in the main been sneak in thefts where people have forgotten to lock their sheds / outbuildings and in several of the cases one of the main items that have been taken is a bicycle. Can I ask all coordinators to forward this information onto members to make them aware. As with the sneak in burglaries by taking a few extra moments to check the security of outbuildings the opportunity of becoming a victim of crime can be greatly reduced by utilising the layers of security that many of us already have in place. If people have particularly expensive bicycles it is worth ensuring that they are covered under your home insurance policy. Extra layers of security can also be added to outbuildings such as chaining items to the wall or storing expensive items in an internal lockable cage that provides a further protection for important items. We often forget that many of us store a large number of valuable items such as golf clubs, other sports equipment, bicycles, power tools etc in our outbuildings so it is worth taking the time to protect these items wherever possible
