Please be aware of the following sneak in burglary that occurred in the Ford Lane area of Crewe between 06:30 & 09:45 24/06/2010:
Offender(s) have approached the rear of a terraced property and have gained entry to a downstairs window by way of some ladders from the garden. Upon gaining entry they have made a tidy search of downstairs, removed various items and exited via the back gate.
Although this incident occurred in Crewe, I have sent out to all coordinators as these are the types of incidents that are still unfortunately happening over the Crewe & Nantwich area as a whole. As a force we can not push the message to lock doors and windows enough, by following this simple advice to utilise the security you already have in place we hope to save some people the considerable heartache and stress of becoming victims of this type of crime. This incident also suggests that ladders from the garden were used to assist in gaining access. During summer months many of us are busy taking advantage of the nicer weather to tidy up gardens, undertake diy projects etc. It is however essential that people make sure they remove the means to assist in crime by locking tools, ladders and items that could be used to assist in gaining entry into a property/vehicle away whenever they are not in use. This includes at night time but also if you are likely to go out during the day. It can be a bit tedious gathering everything up to lock away if you are only going out for an hour but it would be worth the effort if it stopped an opportunist burglar from using those items to commit a crime at your property or a neighbours.
If anyone witnesses any suspicious or out of the ordinary behaviour please report it to the police via 0845 458 0000 or anonymously to Cheshire Crimestoppers via 0800 555 111.
